My nonna (Italian for grandma) is so amazing. I could sit and listen to her life story time and time again, as well as my grandfather's story. In fact, one of the greatest things my grandfather did before his death was to write an autobiography. It tells of his youth in Italy, serving in the army, watching his mother get shot by German officers, getting shot himself in the leg (and never having the bullet removed) and seeing his house taken over for a war post by the Germans. He met my grandma in Connecticut at night classes where they were both taking English classes. It's just amazing. I am so thankful for such heritage and for such courageous, heroic lives they have both lived. My nonna was born in Tunis, Africa and lived there for about 20 years. She spent 14 days on a boat to come to America as an immigrant. A legal immigrant, that is. This woman is a walking miracle. Someday I hope we can get her to tell her story in a way my grandfather did.

This is at my Great Aunt Maria's house. She is on the right, and she is quite the chatterbox and sooo cute. She has the squeakiest highest voice and she hardly speaks any English at all. My Nonna blames it on the fact that she watches too much Italian T.V. and read stoo many books in different languages! :)
